Let me introduce myself my name is Joanna, I am an RN and a Christian and believe in being of service and going where the Lord is guiding me and doing what the Lord wants me to do.
A few of you know that I am part of a Native American Tribe here in Texas. How I got to be a member of this wonderful group of people is a long story meant for 1:1 conversation.
A couple of weeks ago I was bemoaning the fact that I could not go to the beach because of the COVID-19. I evidently was wallowing in it because the Lord told me "it is just your perspective" and then showed me something that hit my heart hard. It was a facebook article about how the Covid-19 has ravaged the people of our Navajo Nation.
After I read that article,
I prayed and then I went and talked with the Chief of my tribe (Chief Joseph Standingbear Morales) and asked him about it. He told me that the need of the people was great. See he keeps in contact with other tribal Chiefs. The Navajo people don't even have water available to them. That is not even counting other basic needs like food, clothes, medical care or anything that we take for granted. And folks, this is in the United States of America..where our indigenous peoples are living in basically the same conditions as third world countries.
Chief Joseph and I came up with a sort of plan about meeting some of those needs. After that I talked with my Sunday School class and told them what was going on and one of the ladies in my class told me why there was such a desperate need for water. That information solidified with me what needed to be done. So this past weekend I had another visit with Chief Joseph and this is our plan:
We are going to take as much water and what ever else we can take to the Navajo reservation starting May 22 through May 25.
We are going to focus on water, masks, clothes and what food we can gather. He is going to work with other tribes about helping also.
This is where I need your help. I don't want money, I don't want to have to report how I spent the money. I need as many cases of water, whether it is in single serving bottles or gallons that I can get.
I need you guys to clean out your closets and pull the clothes that you haven't worn in 5 years to give to people who have nothing. If you can do that for me I will come and pick all that you have to offer and take it to New Mexico.
Most importantly, I need your prayers for not only the Navajo Nation but for all the Native American Nations. If you can do nothing else but share this message, share it until it is viral. Who knows what God can do...I know He is a powerful God and will make a way for this to get done. If not by me, but by someone else.
We will be loading the truck (UHaul) the evening of May 21 and heading out this next morning.
Remember water is the ultimate goal, but we will turn nothing down.
I talked with my Sunday school class today and they are remarkable ladies. I already have two calls that I can pick up water and clothes.
I have also emailed my church leaders for help, I hope you talk with your church leaders for help. Together we can take care of our brothers and sisters.
Lastly, this is not a one time thing, we plan on continuing this every few months to help meet their needs.
If you have any questions or concerns, Please CONTACT US IF YOU CAN HELP and I will contact you asap.
Remember, I understand that times are hard.I have lost half of my salary during this Covid stuff, so if you can’t do anything else — just share and keep sharing and praying. I will keep everyone posted on FB.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and responding in the best way you can.
Peace
